A CHOICE WITH LONG-TERM EFFECTS

Mileage or actual expenses?

The kit explains the two main methods and the purchase-cost recovery options within actual expenses. It shows why a flat 25% annual write-off is not the general pickup rule.

Examples make the calculations easier to follow. They do not determine your truck’s eligibility or prepare a tax return.

Standard mileage
Eligible business miles multiplied by the published IRS rate, with permitted separate items.
Actual expenses
Eligible operating costs allocated to business use, plus allowable cost recovery.
Purchase-cost recovery
MACRS, straight line, Section 179 and bonus depreciation—with elections, limits and later recapture explained.

What “2026 / 2027” means

Use a separate working copy for each tax year. The workbook includes the published 2026 rates. As of November 3, 2026, the IRS table did not list a 2027 rate. For 2027, mileage-dollar totals stay blank until you enter published rates, the official source URL and the check date. Trips and expenses can still be recorded.

Check the official IRS rate table ↗. Confirm 2027 rules and annual limits with your preparer.

Before you buy

Who is this for?

A self-employed owner using a personally owned diesel pickup in a genuine business, with a profit objective. It focuses on one truck. Employees, corporations, partnerships and leases can require different treatment, which the guide flags for professional review.

Does it tell me my exact deduction?

No. It organizes records and explains methods. The owned-truck comparison requires a CPA-supplied business depreciation amount; it does not generate your truck’s tax depreciation schedule. A deduction reduces taxable income and is not a dollar-for-dollar refund.

What do I receive?

A ZIP containing the PDF guide, printable PDF workbook, editable .xlsx workbook and START-HERE instructions. After sales open, Lemon Squeezy will provide the download after successful payment. The PDFs can be read on a phone, tablet or computer; spreadsheet entry is easier on a computer.

What is the refund policy?

Digital download sales are final, except duplicate charges, unresolved delivery defects or refunds required by law or the payment provider. If files do not download or open, contact us so we can provide working files. See the digital download policy.

Are future updates included?

This is the 2026 / 2027 edition prepared November 3, 2026. Automatic future updates or additional tax years are not promised. Verify current law and annual guidance before relying on a deduction.

Use this with your tax preparer.

The original guide and templates add explanation and organization. Tax law, IRS publications and government forms are available free of charge.
